2008 prices held

To fulfil our belief that the initial screening is essential to caring for teeth, we have held the costs for check ups and new patient examinations at 2008 price levels. The efforts made by you to care for your teeth in these difficult financial times by attending check ups and hygiene appointments and to fulfil the commitment to disease prevention will pay off both physically and financially by maintaining good oral health, screening for disease, fresh breath and the pleasure and benefits of a tasty meal enjoyed.

David Rickard is celebrating!

David Rickard is celebrating 25 years of practicing in Dorking on the 8th August 2010. This would be the equivalent of a Silver Anniversary!

David qualified from Guy’s Hospital Dental School in November 1979. On the 16 January 2010 at a hotel in Bracknell seventy percent of his year at dental school got together to gossip the night away reminiscing at a dinner dance. The dinner jacket still fits following alteration! Some had not changed a bit, others were in extremely high flying jobs as consultants in major teaching hospitals, and others sadly were missed. One ‘Star’ has become a consultant Maxillofacial oncology surgeon at the Royal Marsden specialist cancer hospital. They came from as far flung places as California and Australia to give seminars and presentations.

David enjoys telling the story of how he set up his first practice in Dorking from scratch at Cape Place opposite Sainsbury’s, this was at a time when dentists weren’t allowed to advertise. It was at this point that he developed his “open-door” policy which became a core business ethic upheld even today, If you are in pain we will try to see you that day.

Over a period of years he built up his practice and many grateful patients have now stayed with him throughout the 25 years. The development of the practice continued and patients who had been seen with emergency dental problems and had their pain treated decided to join the practice on a permanent basis to benefit from the continuity of care offered by David. Care was centred around prevention of dental disease. This remains a core part of our philosophy at the Old Courthouse in 2010 and is a staple of modern dentistry, as, in the developed world, we are all living so much longer, the average age for men and women is now nearing 85 years or longer.

The philosophy of David Rickard and his team is always to give our patients the tools to prevent disease for a full life. At the Old Courthouse this year, you may notice a silvery theme as we celebrate David’s ongoing commitment to dentistry and support to his patients over 30 years in the profession and 25 years in Dorking. David appreciates the loyalty of his patients who have stayed and grown with him. He looks forward to continuing to provide excellent care for you, his patients in the next decade.

Patient Survey ResultsOur Patient Survey results

Thank you to everyone who completed our detailed survey . It’s always interesting to read comment and see the trends within patient opinion. We found that we have very complimentary patients. Thank you all for your comments of support. The main thing we needed to review and improve on was time keeping. We have audited this point and are working hard to improve time keeping.

When asked what would you tell other people about us, the responses included “to offer a good explanation of treatments”, “trustworthy”, “caring”, “Friendly and efficient”, “David is the best dentist I know”. Thank you all for contributing and your honest feedback, which is always welcome.

Our senior nurse Heather and Practice Manager Fiona have attended a training course At Royal Surrey County Hospital in January 2009 to learn about implementing the new guidelines.

Old Court House is committed to modernisation and bringing you the full gambit of specialist dental services, Prosthodontics (implants, veneers and bridges), Periodontics (gum care) and Endodontics (root canal)

Our New Instaclave Vacuum 2545 S Series 3

New Root Canal Microscope

Root Canal treatment

Dr Conor Durack has settled in extremely well at the practice in only 3 months. Patients are enjoying his warm Irish lilt and very gentle treatment in the management of root canal therapy.

And yes, we do hear people say “I didn’t feel a thing”.

Root Canal Treatment is a keen topic at dinner parties, the thought of which brings as always a widening of the eyes and a ‘rabbit caught in the headlights’ look on a patients face. It is a most demanding branch of dentistry where clinical skill, dexterity, patience, calmness and kindness are at the forefront of the patients needs, Conor delivers in all these areas. Conor came to our practice in September ‘08 as a general dental practitioner in specialist training to become an Endodontist following a personal recommendation from Dr Sachin Varma our Prosthodontic specialist. He is currently studying part time for the prestigious MClinDent Endodontology at Guys, Kings and St Thomas’s Hospitals. His anticipated qualification and commensurate skills will serve patients well and allow him to save your teeth. This will also save on expensive bridgework on teeth which at other practices or in past times would have had to be extracted.

If you know a friend who is having a problem with an abscess or old root filling why not refer them to us rather than a long journey to another practice if their dentist says ‘they cannot do it and they need someone with the Microscope! … Or an extraction!
