If you have to cancel an appointment please give us 24 hours notice (48 hours for hygienist appointments) so that we can offer the time to someone waiting for treatment. We may make a charge for short notice cancellations or missed appointments.
Old Courthouse dental practice offer 3 payment options at the practice:
Option 1: You pay on the day for the treatment you have had at the end of your appointment.
Option 2: various dental care plans paying by direct debit.
Option 3: NHS or Private treatment for children.

In case of an emergency during practice hours, please contact the practice immediately on 01306 885611. We will always endeavour to see a patient in pain on the same day we keep several slots available to carry out treatment every day. Please call early in the day. If you require emergency dental advice outside surgery hours, please telephone to get the on call dentist 24 hour mobile phone number. This will be for advice only. Contact the surgery first thing in the morning for an emergency appointment.
Parking is available in the pay and display car park off Wathen Road.

Dr G D Rickard BDS’79; DGDP (UK)
David, a Guy’s Hospital graduate with honours has experience of treating patients in Dorking for nearly 20 years. He founded and established a small practice in rooms at Cape Place (High Street) in 1985 expanding 2 surgeries in late 1989 and to our new high street location in 2006.
He is a Member of the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners of the Royal College of Surgeons (1995). He holds postgraduate certificates from the College in Dental Health Services Management and Leadership (1993) and Practice Appraisal in April’05. David is qualified to evaluate the service and performance of other Practices and their Dentist. In 1994 he obtained the Level 1 Certificate in Restorative Dental Practice from the prestigious Eastman Dental Institute. He has been published in the British Dental Journal in 2004 with work on Risk Management in Primary Dental Care and work on New Technologies in Dentistry at the Cochrane Collaboration 2004. David lives in Coolham, West Sussex with his wife, two children and their chocolate Labrador Charlie.
Dr Sachin Varma BDS, MClin. Dent, MFDS RCS (Eng), MRD RCS (Ed) Prosthodontic Specialist
Dr Sachin Varma is a registered specialist with the General Dental Council (GDC) in prosthodontics. He obtained a Masters of Clinical Dentistry at Kings College, London where he still plays an active role in training dentists. His clinical work has been reviewed and assessed by world leaders in restorative dentistry at Guys Hospital. This has led to him being awarded the MRD qualification which is the highest qualification in restorative dentistry available. He gained the top marks in his masters thesis on the detection of dental decay; his work has since been presented and publicised internationally.
Sachin takes pride in providing specialist treatment for implants, crowns, bridges and dentures at the Old Courthouse at general dentist’s prices. He pays particular attention to the cosmetic, yet functional and realistic aspects of dentistry.
Sachin is particularly open, straightforward, kind and caring in nature.

Dr Hatem Algraffee BDS, MSc, MClin. Dent, MRD, MFDS - Periodontic Specialist
Hatem Algraffe qualified at the Royal Hospital. This was followed by an oral surgery position and private practice. He trained as a specialist periodontist at Guy’s Hospital and gained a masters degree and masters in clinical dentistry. The four year specialist training was completed with a membership in restorative dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons. He gained extensive implant and restorative training and experience at Guy’s hospital and now dedicates his time only to implant dentistry and periodontics. Previous held posts were as a Specialist Clinical Teacher at Guy’s Hospital and as a Specialist Senior Dental Officer for Hammersmith and Fulham NHS trust.
Currently he:
- Has extensive experience and knowledge in implant dentistry
- Has lectures and has a passion in assisting and educating colleagues
- Has already mentored colleagues and South London and Kent in placement and restoration of implants.
Dr Conor Durack BDS ’01, MFDS.RCSI ‘07
Conor Durack is coming to our practice as a general Practitioner in specialist training to become an ENDODONTIST.
He is currently studying part time for the prestigious MClinDent Endodontology at Guys, Kings and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London. His superb qualifications and experience will serve patients well and allow him to save your teeth from expensive bridgework or crowned teeth which in past times would have to be extracted.
Conor will join our team one day per week on a Mondays. If you have a tendency to get abscesses or need root fillings re done then he is the man for you.
He is kind caring and compassionate, he will welcome referrals from your friends just for root canal treatments.
He is experienced in Private dental practice in Ireland and Australia. He is a keen sportsman and loves Scuba diving and running. He has completed the London Marathon in a fantastic 3 hours and 28 minutes.

Dr Simon Burgess BDS ‘05
Simon will be joining us from 3rd September working on Wednesdays and Thursdays. He joins us from a dental group practice and is wishing to settle and provide stability to a loyal group of patients. Simon has completed the Key Skills components of the MJDF Examination course work which he is planning to complete.
He lives locally and in his spare time enjoys playing and coaching tennis and competitions. He is also learning to play the acoustic guitar.

Cathy Miles has been a hygienist for 15 years, has a young family and lives in Dorking. Apart from working with Old Courthouse Dental Practice, she works at 2 other practices in the Dorking area and supports the local periodontal specialist in Leatherhead, Mr Richard Snoad. |
The Old Courthouse Dental Practice Practice Manager:
Fiona Baker has been with the old courthouse dental practice since 1998, initially as a dental nurse, qualifying in 2000. Since then she has fulfilled the role of senior nurse and was responsible for the implementation of the Good Practice Scheme in 2001. Fiona had a short break from work following the arrival of her daughter and returned in the role of practice manager in February 2005.
Siân Posner BD RGN ACIPD - Business Development Manager
As the business development manager Siân‘s role includes marketing and business development and administration.

Heather Notley started work at Old Courthouse dental practice in October 2000 as a trainee nurse and qualified for her National Certificate in Dental Nursing in 2002. As an experienced dental nurse she thoroughly enjoys caring for you and supporting the dentists, she particularly nursing for the specialist treatments. |
Lauren Stewart-Smith lives locally and joined the practice in 2006. She has been working as a dental nurse for 7 years and qualified 5 years ago. She also gained an additional qualification 2 years ago in dental radiography. | We are pleased to welcome Jaci Elms as a new member of our dental nursing team. She is very experienced in all aspects of nursing and is also taking up reception duties alongside Elaine. |
Hilary Garrett joined our practice as a dental nurse in 2008 and we are pleased to have her working as part of our team. Having worked in school dental clinics and general practice as a dentist, she is enjoying the supportive role of dental nursing. |
The Old Courthouse Dental Practice Reception Team:
Fiona Pethig has been with us since 2000, initially as a part-time receptionist but now works only a few hours a week helping out with administrative tasks. She enjoys the rest of her time with her daughter.
Elaine Simpson has a wealth of experience in the optical and hearing industry. In addition her experience as a dental nurse is invaluable at reception at the Old Courthouse. Introduce yourself to her; she will be pleased to arrange your dental appointments.









Polly Craig worked as a qualified dental nurse in Reigate for six years before qualifying as a dental hygienist at the Eastman Dental Institute in 2003.
